Baltimore Book Fest: Books, Candles & a Plot Twist

They Put My Name on a Tent?!

Okay, I was extremely normal about this.

THE HONEYBEE DRAGON. At Baltimore Book Fest. ON THE TENT.

Two years ago I was pouring bookish candles in my kitchen, and now apparently we're doing this?!

And Then You Started Shopping

Baltimore, you SHOWED UP.

Saturday was basically a blur of candles, books, fictional men, “WAIT, smell this one,” and people coming into the booth for one thing and leaving with three.

My kind of people.

High Lady sold out.

Followed by Grumpy x Sunshine.

Which is wonderful news for The HoneyBee Dragon and terrible news for the woman who has to go home and make more candles.

Hi. It's me.

By the end of Saturday we'd had 44 orders and 75 items sold.

WHAT?!

More importantly, I met a ridiculous number of new readers, got to talk books all day, and watched people find their candle.

That part never gets old.

Princess Donut Ordered a Drink

After a full day of candles, books, and fictional men, we headed back to our hotel — only to discover The Study was hosting the Book Festival After Dark Literary Soirée.

And when I saw they had a Dirty Shirley?

My Dungeon Crawler Carl people already know where this is going.

Obviously, when I had the chance to actually order one that night, there was only one reasonable choice.

Princess Donut would approve.

Mongo would be appalled.

And Then Baltimore Chose Violence

Sunday morning:

🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️

We watched the weather. We debated. We drove past the festival.

And...yeah.

Very few vendors were out, it was absolutely pouring, and we finally made the sad call to skip Day Two rather than turn several hundred bookish candles into very expensive rain decorations.

Was I disappointed? Absolutely.

Was holding Grumpy x Sunshine against the rainy windshield objectively hilarious?

Also yes.

So We Found Books & Coffee

Because obviously.

We stopped at Bird in Hand for breakfast and coffee before heading home, which felt particularly appropriate considering the weather had basically declared Sunday a mandatory stay inside, light a candle, and read day.

Honestly, congratulations to everyone who bought a candle Saturday.

Baltimore provided the ambiance.

PLOT TWIST: We're Coming Back

Turns out Baltimore hasn't gotten rid of me yet.

I connected with Scryptid Games and I'll be back October 17 at Peabody Heights Brewery for their Halloween Market celebrating Tales from the Cryptids.

Spooky vendors. Cryptids. A costume ball.

And apparently I have decided that the appropriate professional attire for this event is...

MOTHMAN.

Obviously.

See you in October, Baltimore. 🖤
